John White Media
My name is John and I'm a professional photographer.
I got the photography bug by accident. I'm passionate about rugby, and only started taking photographs to accompany match reports I provided to my local paper, the Bristol Post - hence the John White Media tag line.
But I quickly gained a reputation as a decent rugby snapper, as well as a writer, and was soon approached by Bristol Rugby to become their full-time photographer - a position I held for four years.
As time went on I discovered that I was pretty good at capturing people's emotions, and I became fascinated by ordinary people from all walks of life.
I still supply Bristol Rugby images to the newspaper, but I have broadened my horizon's by adding weddings and portraits to my photographic arsenal.
My approach to rugby matches, weddings and events like christenings, corporate dinners or award ceremonies are the same.
I treat them all as a documentary. All of the above call for a few staged photographs, but by and large, I don't like to interfere, preferring instead to record the events as they happen, from start to finish with all the bits in between.
Portraits call for a slightly different approach. It's my job to make my client feel at ease and bring out the best in them, to make a connection and produce imagery good enough to hang on a wall.
I have photographed lots of celebrities and sports stars and even the Prime Minister, but, in my opinion, all of my best work involves normal, every-day people.
