The best of Bristol celebrated at The Bristol Life Awards 2019

Photo: Bristol Life Awards

Businesses from across Bristol gathered on Harbourside last night for the annual Bristol Life Awards.

Around 660 award nominees and specially invited guests had a three-course meal, before the awards got underway in a giant marquee on Harbourside at Lloyd Amphitheatre.

During the speeches when the winners came up on stage to collect their awards, many shined a light on Bristol's creative, welcoming and inspiring community.

We spoke to several winners after the ceremony - including One25 who picked up Charity alongside The Grand Appeal.

Wendy Goodwin from One25 told us their work continues to be important despite getting a number of sex workers off the streets of the city last year, it's estimated around 150 women continue to work on the streets each night.

The organisers of St Paul's Carnival told us they were 'delighted' with their win, and that this year's carnival theme is 'Journey' - to portray how far communities in Bristol have come, and as a symbolic reference to the Windrush generation.

The Carnival celebrated not only it's return last summer, but it's 50th anniversary too.

It returns this year on 6th July.
