Sunday with The Stranglers
Missed Sam FM special one hour show; Sunday with The Stranglers? Fear not, as you can listen back to Damien St John present this special show about the incredible punk rock era with Stranglers bassist JJ Burnel.
JJ discusses what life was like living through the punk rock revolution of the 1970s, and features some of the biggest punk rock songs from The Undertones, The Clash, Patti Smith and of course some classic Stranglers tracks.
Originally known as the Guildford Stranglers, the band started to build a massive fan-base in the mid-70s. With their aggressive, no-compromise attitudes, The Stranglers were one of the bands to have been an instigator of the UK punk rock scene. They’ve had an impressive 23 top 40 singles and 17 top 40 albums throughout a 4-decade career and the band are still going, with their ‘Back On The Tracks’ tour currently visiting some of the best venues across the UK.
The band had a massive mainstream hit with 1982 single ‘Golden Brown’ taken from one of their most popular albums ‘La Folie’, and had other hits including ‘No More Heroes’, ‘Always the sun’ and ‘Peaches’ which featured in the Ray Winstone starring film ‘Sexy Beast’.
