Flybe take-over 'exciting development' says Southampton Airport

The chief executive of Southampton Airport, Neil Garwood, has described the sale of Flybe as an 'exciting development'.

The airline announced on Friday (11 January) that it had been sold to a consortium led by Virgin Atlantic and Stobart Group.

The regional carrier, which is one of the main airlines at Southampton airport, put itself up for sale because of rising fuel costs and Brexit uncertainty.

The £2.2million pound deal will create a new airline called 'Connect Airways'.

Commenting on the sale of Flybe, Southampton Airport Managing Director Neil Garwood said:

“We have a very good relationship with all our airlines and Flybe continues to be a very important business partner for us.

“We are looking forward to working with Connect Airways and continuing to serve the needs of our passengers.

"This is another exciting development that we hope will support our growth ambitions in the years ahead.”
