A year on from the Grenfell Tower fire, work is progressing well in Southampton to install sprinklers in local tower blocks.
That's according to the City Council, who say sprinklers have been installed at Shirley Towers and Albion Towers.
Work is also taking place at blocks in Millbrook, Redbridge, Weston and Thornhill.
New sprinklers and fire safety measures are on their way, thanks to a collaboration with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Councillor Payne, Cabinet member for Housing and Social Care, said:
“Ensuring that our tenants are safe and secure is our top priority. All our tower blocks have up-to-date fire risk assessments and Southampton City Council has been working closely with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and our specialist installation contractors on a timetable for installing sprinkler systems and undertaking other fire safety works in tower blocks to make them even safer.”

Albion Towers’ tenant Chris Morris says she feels reassured now that she has the sprinkler systems in place:
"Me, my family and my neighbours feel a lot safer now we know the sprinklers are installed here at Albion Towers."
