Syrian refugees 'need help to get driving licenses'

Shaftesbury town centre

Refugees from places like Syria who've been resettled in Shaftesbury and across Dorset have said a big thank you for the way they've been received.

Today a large group of around 50 from the county are travelling to London to access specialist support for the adults - and to give the kids a fun day out.

The children are now attending schools and all the families are still learning English.

Valerie Davis, a volunteer with multi-faith charity Unity in Vision, is supporting the three families in Shaftesbury.

She says the families know their neighbours and local businesses, residents have been 'friendly and nice' to them and there's been no 'specific tensions'.

She says the families need help with their driving licences - as the test needs to be taken in English -  and many of the refugees are struggling with the theory test element.

The group's licences expire in around four months' time.
